Mary Powell

Mary Margaret Powell passed away during the early morning hours of November 14, 2022 at the age of 60 after a two month battle with cancer. Born in Puerto Rico at Ramey Air Force Base, Mary began life as a premature baby. We were a military family, so her early childhood years were spent traveling to different bases around the United States. However, as she entered Junior High, the family moved to the Vichy, Missouri area. After graduating from Belle High School in 1980, she pursued an accreditation in the clerical field. Her work life included the Phelps County Health Department and Missouri Department of Natural Resources. A passion for animals has always been a life long personal interest. She enjoyed going to many Alabama concerts and loved Cardinal baseball, specifically Mark McGwire. Her mother, Helen Weinert- Powell (nee Shipman) and father, James Elmer Powell preceded her in death. She is survived by her two children, Marlaina Mitchell, who lives with her husband, Nathaniel in St. James, MO and Donald “D.J.” Malone who lives in Fenton, Missouri. Mary has three older brothers and one sister; Stephen Powell and his wife, Venetia reside in Saint Charles, Missouri, Mike Powell and his wife, Janice live in Douglass, Kansas, Tim Powell and Sulinn live in Andover, Kansas, and Karen Grimes and her husband, Stephen reside in Gautier, Mississippi. She has seven grandchildren; Abby, Sam, Ben, Trevor G. Olivia, Sophia, and Trevor, and one great grandchild, Maverick. Mary’s stepmother is Alice Ferguson from Eminence, Missouri and three stepsisters, Lynn Howard and husband, Steve, Cathy Phillips and significant other, Dave Sommers, from Eminence, MO, and Mary Belinda Malone and husband, Kyle who live in Salem, MO.
There are many nieces and nephews. Mary is further survived by many cousins, great nephews and nieces. Finally, we want to thank Randy Maxey who was Mary’s significant other for the past twelve years. She loved Randy and they enjoyed life together. We also want to thank his daughter, Cassidy and her little one, Kaylee for being in my little sister’s life. Mary was loved by many and we all will miss her laughter, smile and reflections on life. Safe travels little sister. You will always be in our hearts forever. A memorial service for Mary M. Powell will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the Null and Son Funeral Home, 1010 Kingshighway in Rolla. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Phelps County Animal Rescue.
