Leburn Roy “Tom" Mooney, Sr

Leburn Roy "Tom" Mooney, Sr. born February 21, 1944, to Walter Mooney and Daisy (Ferguson) Mooney at home on lower Blairs Creek. Tom passed away in his home in Eminence on Friday, June 17, 2022.
He was one of 13 children born to the household. Tom lived in the family home until they eventually moved closer to Two Rivers where he continued school at Eminence High School. He soon met Carol Vermillion and the two were married shortly after. They welcomed three children to the home, Leburn Jr., Bill, and Kim whom he loved dearly. Tom often joked that he had kids so young because he wanted to grow up with them. He began to work in construction at a young age until eventually becoming a union carpenter in St. Louis where he worked for 30+ years until retirement. Throughout his life he had a passion for wildlife and loved hunting, fishing, gigging, and listening to the dogs run. Tom always enjoyed the river and loved to swim and relax with family and friends. Later in life Tom wasn't able to hunt on his own but was just as content to ride around and look at the animals. He enjoyed traveling through Peck Ranch, often multiple times per week, to see the elk, deer, and turkeys. He loved to see his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would beam when they came to see him so he could tell stories about the old days or just laugh at whatever they were doing. He was loved by many in the Shannon County community and was one of the all-time great story tellers at the local establishments.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Daisy Mooney; his son, Bill Mooney; his daughter, Kim Adams and husband, Mike Adams; and siblings, Harold Mooney, Beula Cowen, Gene Mooney, Hazel Turner, Kenneth Mooney, Doyle Mooney, Ruth Slayton, Jim Mooney, and Bob Mooney. He is survived by his son, Leburn Mooney, Jr. and Deena of Eminence; three grandsons, Lance Radosevich and wife, Sammi of West Plains, Blake Radosevich and wife, Erica of Salem, and Derringer Mooney and wife, Adrienne of Eminence; one granddaughter, Shalea Mooney of Mtn. Grove; three siblings, Glenda Thomas, Rose Patterson, and Betty Pitts all of Eminence; significant other, Marlene Jones; former spouse, Carol Mooney; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Yarber Mortuary, Eminence, Missouri, with Pastor Randy Ferguson officiating. Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 6-8:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Interment was in Horner Cemetery, Winona, Missouri.
