JUMPIN’ JACKS FORK - The Jacks Fork River at Eminence jumped from a gauge level of 2.12 ft. to a flood-level
stage of 9.12 ft. in a matter of hours on March 26, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. At Alley Spring the River
rose from a little less than 2 ft. to almost 10 ft. Heavy rains in the watershed during previous 24 hours brought some
relief to drought conditions. By Friday, the U.S. Drought Monitor map for Missouri showed “abnormally dry” con -
ditions for extreme western Shannon County and “moderate drought” for the rest of the County. (Wave/R. Dillon)
