Joe Alvin Counts

October 06, 2023

Jewell "Joe" Alvin Counts, the eldest son of William Ernest and Betty Lou (Redman) Counts, was born on June 25, 1949, on the family farm in Rocky, Shannon County, Missouri. He left this life on September 22, 2023, at home on his farm on Little Shawnee at the age of 74 years. Joe was a father of two sons, William Lesley and Charles Wesley Counts, both of Winona, MO, and grandfather to Kasha Lynn Duckett. He was preceded in death by his father, a baby girl, and his grandparents. Joe is survived by his wife, Beverly; children; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his mother; siblings, Johnny Counts and Earlene Crider and their families; and a host of other extended family members. Joe became a faithful member of the Winona Assembly of God Church, giving his heart to the Lord in 2006. He was an extremely generous, tender- hearted, and hard-working man, and a great provider. He was a great storyteller and loved joking with people, all in fun, and a keeper of secrets. Joe loved being a logger, which he started at a very young age with his father and continued to work in the logging industry until his health no longer permitted him to do so in the Spring of 2021. He lived his life on the farm at Rocky and Little Shawnee. Some of his greatest passions were gardening, hunting, and visiting with friends. He enjoyed having big dinner parties and having friends over. Joe was one of a kind. Graveside services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Horner, Winona, Missouri, with Rev. Richard Dement and Bro. Clyde Stage officiating, under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Winona. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-2:30 p.m. at Assembly of God Church, Winona. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com
